What If Real Life Was Like Glee Life?

I LOVE me some Glee. People love that show because they love to root for the underdogs…to see the geeks prevail. Don’t get me wrong, I like that too. But what I REALLY love about Glee is how it answers the question: How awesome would it be if real life was like a movie musical? Wanna know what MY life would be like if I had a readily available back-up band, stellar singing voice, and the perfect song for every situation that came my way? Action!

Scene 1: Our Bedroom
The alarm clock sounds, and I immediately realize I stayed up WAY too late last night pinning on Pinterest. My eyes slowly open while the song on the alarm is conveniently one that I can sing too:  ‘Manic Monday’ by the Bangles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvSN4_0b8kc). By the time I’m done singing I have fed three kids a wholesome breakfast, gotten them all groomed for the day in adorable ensembles, and lovingly sent two of them off on the bus to conquer the day. Ahhh…time for a cup of coffee.
Scene 2: The Dance Studio
Time to bring my 3 year old to the dance studio so she can continue her intensive training towards becoming a major Broadway star one day. I watch her proudly through the little window and get all teary eyed. I quietly sing to myself, going unnoticed by everyone else in the room. The song (obviously) is  a mash up of Lionel Richie’s ‘Ballerina Girl’ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ulvB3L7kbk) and Elton John’s ‘Tiny Dancer’ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tmGdQDS7HE. ).
Scene 3: The Grocery Store
After dance class, we head to the grocery store where amazingly enough…THIS happens: (In case there’s any question…I’m the blonde. Obviously.)

Scene 4: Our Front Steps
It’s late afternoon and I’ve just finished doing a thorough cleaning of every room in my house – not a speck of dust anywhere. The bus arrives and I greet my boys with a smile and nutritious snack. They run into the house and proceed to act like tornadoes of boyish energy. Before I know it, my once spotless house is a disaster. With the 3 children literally running circles around me, I break into Aretha Franklin’s ‘Respect’ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OncKtzZ2Nc). In no time at all the kids are not only remorseful, they are actually in line behind me…acting as my back up singers! The song ends and they start cleaning up after themselves without even being asked.
Scene 5: Kitchen
Dinner is a delicious crock pot roast with vegetables (which my children will  later devour without a single complaint). I’m at the counter making a loaf of home-made bread to go with the roast, when my loving husband walks through the door. I greet him with a smile and a kiss. I go about my dinner/bread making without noticing he is watching me lovingly from across the kitchen. Somehow I don’t hear that he has begun singing Billy Joel’s ‘She’s Got a Way’ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUn-XOQoN3U) while a montage of our most fun moments runs through his mind.
Scene 6:
After dinner, homework, baths, and bedtime stories…the kids instantaneously  fall fast asleep while I sit with an enormous glass of white wine, thinking to myself…”I wonder what’s happening on Pinterest tonight.”

  1. What a Gleefully lovely day………Dream on.

  2. Best blog post ever. Seriously.

  3. This was so entertaining to read. It could be the next episode of Glee. You write like a star. I believe your life should be just like your blog, for real. Some people say it’s seeing the world through rose-colored glasses, but I say don’t ever let anybody squelch your dreams, Marie. Be happy, sing, and carry on!

  4. Loved this… and I’m not even a big GLEE fan (I’m not a hater either, just don’t watch much TV).

Happy SITS Day! Your blog is way cool!

  5. Haha! I need to try the “Respect” song & dance with my 3-year-old. He might not understand the lyrics, but I figure my random soul singing might distract him into listening.

  6. I am going to spend my entire day thinking up song and dance routines that fit the moment!!!!

  7. Would a day like that be the best? I love Glee, and I think the world would be happier if we had a musical day now and then. ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. What, you guys don’t randomly break into song on occasion? What a pity, you should really try it sometime!! (I’m quite kidding. I only break into song while I’m 100% sure there’s no one within hearing distance – it wouldn’t be fair to anyone, me and my horrible singing voice!)

  9. Love it! If only I could sing…Thanks for sharing your blog today!

  10. I can totally see this happening in my house! Not sure if my boys would be down for a Glee like evening but a girl could always try! ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy SITS day!

  11. Happy Sits Day! Love Glee and your day sounds perfect!

  12. I love scene four the most. It all starts and ends there. Of course, if you want the wine, that works. Me, a nice piece of chocolate. Enjoy your SITS Day and someday the music might find you.

  13. How amazing would life be if we all spontaneously broke out into song and dance? Happy SITS day!

  14. Hilarious!!!! This is so funny and creative. If you were to actually do that, your husband would have you committed. Too funny. Happy SITS Day SITStah! Andrea

  15. Sounds great! I’m assuming that when you leaned in to kiss your husband that you had one foot off the ground with your knee bent at 90 degrees. That’s how they kiss in the movies, ya know!

  16. I’ve always thought that my days at home would be so much more lively and fun with a running soundtrack! And this proves it! However if I had to start every week with Manic Monday, I think I would go nuts, much like Phil in Groundhog Day. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Enjoy your SITS day! ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. I just really want to see my co-workers sing & dance, LOL.

    {{ stopping by from SITS }}

  18. Great post! We break out in song quite a bit in our house! I think life should be a musical! ๐Ÿ™‚

Stopping by SITS! I’m so glad I found your blog because I have enjoyed reading your posts and I can’t wait to follow it!

  19. What a great post!!! I think I’d love for my life to be a musical ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy SITS day!

  20. This is so awesome. Love it! Thanks for sharing the Glee that’s happening in your head ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. This is HILARIOUS. I totally want to do a post like this! Though honestly, Glee has lost some of its luster for me… just doesn’t seem to have the same zing that it used to. What do you think? I am head over HEELS for Smash (NBC, season 2 starts up in 2013). Since it’s based around the production of a Broadway play, all the musical numbers make more sense! Plus, the original tunes are spectacular! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Thanks for sharing!

    -Sweet Sarah

  22. I agree that Glee has lost some luster. I miss the original cast SO much. And I get so excited when they all come back to visit now. Haven’t really gotten into Smash. But I LOVE me some Broadway musicals…So I should probably investigate. ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. Love it. I want to hear that Ballerina Girl/Tiny Dancer mashup.
