Raise Your Glass…It’s Time For a Wine Review

I am not a wine snob. But I appreciate the hell out of a good glass bottle of wine. (Seriously, find me a stressed out mom who doesn’t.) So you can imagine my excitement when I was given the opportunity to enjoy and review a new wine on the market, Anew Riesling – A refreshing wine for those seeking balance in life.

Here’s a bit of background information from Anew (for those of you who ARE wine snobs.) The 2012 Anew Riesling was sourced from vineyards throughout the state of Washington, one of the most highly-acclaimed Riesling regions in the world. Grapes were sourced from vineyards in the Columbia Valley, Horse Heaven Hills, Wahluke Slope and Yakima Valley. The blend is almost entirely Riesling, with just a touch of Gewurztraminer and Muscat to bring spice to the palate.
I immediately loved the distinctly shaped bottle and the clean look of the lotus flower logo. It’s very modern…very zen. Like many of you, I love a cleverly packaged wine. (In other words, I really hope I’m not the only one out there who chooses my wine based on how cool it looks on the shelf.)
And now for full disclosure: I’m generally not a Riesling drinker. I almost always opt for a Chardonnay. I prefer a dryer wine, over a fruity taste. So it was a very pleasant surprise when I took my first sip only to find this Riesling is light and fresh tasting. Just the right blend of fruits, and a little bit of spice. Not overly acidic at all. (Oh my God, I can just hear the wine connoisseurs out there rolling their eyes at my  botched  attempt at a wine description. I’m just trying to keep it real here, people.)
According to the wine makers, Anew Riesling is perfect on it’s own or paired with food. You should try it with spicy Asian dishes, smoked salmon, lobster salad, pasta with light sauces and blue cheese…which clearly will never happen in MY kitchen. But I’m happy to share from experience that it also pairs well with Sloppy Joes and fries. (Again, just trying to keep it real.) My suggestion would be to pair it with complete solitude. I’m thinking a quiet evening alone while your husband takes the kids to the in-law’s. Enjoy it with a cheesy chick flick or trashy novel.
Whether you’re a fabulous foodie or a frazzled mama who just needs a break,
Anew is the perfect indulgence. Relax and enjoy!

  1. Love this review. I think most wine drinkers are “amatures” just like you and me.
